Aziza’s Zodiac was commissioned for an exhibition designed for child audiences and as a studio exercise to keep making while navigating new parenthood, these drawings reflected Richardson's first child’s life, told through the interactions they had with animals each month for a year. Serving as a record of her daughter’s personal history on the farm the work became a large scale zodiac calendar. Richardson wanted to create artwork that reflected on the quiet space of early parenthood and revealed meaning from the everyday lives of animals whose world we occupy.

"My daughter Aziza Nancy Kate Abdullah was born on 9 February 2018. This is her zodiac for the first year of life.
February: A calf was born the same day as Aziza. I went into labour at the same time as the cow. The calf died.
March: Found out Aziza is a Fire Rooster. Grandma got a new rooster, we call him Mr Legs.
April: I ate mutton bird in Tasmania. Aziza cried all the next day.
May: Learnt the lyrics to Never smile at a crocodile. Had heaps of nightmares about crocodiles for a while.
June: We finally locked the possum out of the roof.
July: Aziza and I watched a hawk catch a rabbit. We accidentally scared the hawk away but it came back later to finish it's lunch.
August: Grandma bought two pregnant alpacas. We call them Thelma and Louise.
September: Aziza and I went for a run. We got bombed by three magpies.
October: A baby goanna spent all day on the back flyscreen door. We touched its claws through the screen.
November: The month of the Southern Old Lady Moth. They leave little dust puddles when they die.
December: All the remaining feral rabbits died from some mysterious disease. Yay!
January: Aziza and I went for a walk at the beach. We saw a bobtail eating dog poo.
This work was created in real time, with a new drawing added each month reflecting Aziza’s life and interactions with animals"
