Aziza's zodiac
My daughter Aziza Nancy Kate Abdullah was born on 9 February 2018. This is her zodiac for the first year of life.
February: A calf was born the same day as Aziza. I went into labour at the same time as the cow. The calf died.
March: Found out Aziza is a Fire Rooster. Grandma got a new rooster, we call him Mr Legs.
April: I ate mutton bird in Tasmania. Aziza cried all the next day.
May: Learnt the lyrics to Never smile at a crocodile. Had heaps of nightmares about crocodiles for a while.
June: We finally locked the possum out of the roof.
July: Aziza and I watched a hawk catch a rabbit. We accidentally scared the hawk away but it came back later to finish it's lunch.
August: Grandma bought two pregnant alpacas. We call them Thelma and Louise.
September: Aziza and I went for a run. We got bombed by three magpies.
October: A baby goanna spent all day on the back flyscreen door. We touched its claws through the screen.
November: The month of the Southern Old Lady Moth. They leave little dust puddles when they die.
December: All the remaining feral rabbits died from some mysterious disease. Yay!
January: Aziza and I went for a walk at the beach. We saw a bobtail eating dog poo.
This work was created in real time, with a new drawing added each month reflecting Aziza’s life and interactions with animals.
